How it all started

Back in 1955, Madeleine, Germain Lemay’s new wife, discovers for the first time that her husband, an accountant by profession, also has a passion for construction and pays scrupulous attention to details.

While Mr. Lemay is working for two accounting firms, he endeavors to build a triplex during his spare time. Eventually, the triplex will give the young couple a meager surplus of $112 per month for the rental of the units. That surplus combined with his new wife’s previous savings and weekly salary will eventually permit them to purchase a lot in Rockliffe Park. It is the sale of that property along with the construction of two new triplexes, in 1958, that officially mark the beginning of Lemay Homes!


Lemay Homes is a family business where wife, daughter and son have and still play an important role in the construction of new homes in renowned projects throughout Ottawa and Gatineau such as: Plateau de la Capitale, Côte d’Azur, Manoirs Champlain, Rothwell Heights, Rockland Heights, Terrasses de l’Ambassade, Village Carson, Boisé Beaujolais et Terrasses Gabriel-Lacasse, just to name a few.

A lot has changed since its humble beginnings and today, Lemay Homes passes on to a second generation of leaders. The founding parents pass the reins of the company into the experienced and capable hands of their son Jean and his wife Nicole. Since the tender age of ten, their son started cutting the grass in the different projects at that time. During his teenage years, Jean also earned valuable experience working hands on the construction process of new homes. Furthermore, as a young adult, he adds to his building experience an administrative and accounting education. Jean has literally followed his father’s footsteps to perpetuate the meticulous attention to details and the highest construction standards that go into every Lemay Home.
